Description
Canadian. Oil on board. Fourth Quarter, 20th C. This painting is particularly charming, and evocative of an idyllic age in rural Ontario. Signed lower right, "Barbara Clark Fleming" and titled on reverse, “Cows and Girls”. 20 x 24". From the Susan Murray Collection. $600/900. Barbara Clark Fleming (B.1939) grew up on a farm near Hickson in southwestern Ontario, and traces her love of the farm animals which dominate her paintings to that childhood environment. With no formal art training, Clark-Fleming set out on the painting path in the late 1970s because she wanted to preserve an image of the home farm, stating “There were no pictures of the house and the barn and I didn't want to forget it. So, I decided to paint it.” She found success in her artistic career, with interest from art collectors and antique dealers sparking her popularity. Her paintings are included in many collections in Canada, the USA and Europe including the Museum of American Folk Art, New York.
