Description
Canadian. Dated 1959. Painted wood. A charming mountain cat carving by renown Nova Scotia folk artist Donald Boudreau. Signed underneath, "Donald Boudreau". 8.75(H) x 16.5(L) x 8.25(D)". From the Marty Osler Collection. $200/300. Donald Boudreau (1917-2000) was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard, Nova Scotia. He worked as a lumberjack and in the fishing industry before becoming a woodworker in his later years. Eventually, Boudreau became the owner of his own lumberyard. Sometime around 1974, he began carving at the request of his wife, who requested he make her a lawn ornament. His friends insisted he continue to carve, and he was soon producing sculptures of various subjects including animals, whirligigs, beach scenes, and family pets. Boudreau's work is included in the collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
