Description
American. 1850s. This is an older model single chain-stitch, hand crank sewing machine made by Willcox & Gibbs, dating to approximately 1858. It has a glass tension disc. The gold decoration is evident but worn. Given its age, this machine is in good condition and an excellent early example of a highly collectable sewing machine. A small wooden attachment box, containing a cloth guide and quilting guide as well as other unidentified attachments without markings, is included with this sewing machine. Horseless Carriage Museum, Fenelon Falls, Ont. 11.5 x 13 x 8.5".
