American. 1890s. Painted wood with porcelain arm rests and leather upholstery. Ornate cast footrest stamped, "Patented Koken Reg. US Pat Off". This early, non-hydraulic reclining chair represents one of the earlier models made by Koken. Nickel plated hardware exhibits moderate to heavy surface oxidation. Surface losses, tears and stains are evident in the leather. Wooden frame exhibits areas of losses, soiling and stains. Retains original headrest.
