Description
A finely modelled early 20th century cold painted and gilt patinated 'naughty' Orientalist bronze in the form of a Geisha. Modelled with her hair worn in high chignon and holding a removable parasol in one hand and a lotus blossom in the opposing, attired in a lavishly decorated kimono that opens to reveal her nude and gilt patinated figure. Shown standing upon a tasseled carpet realistically draped over a stepped base. Stamped in the mold with the letter B within an urn shaped cartouche for Franz Bergman foundry. Franz Xavier Bergman (1861-1936) signed several of his erotic works with the pseudonym 'Nam Greb', 'N. Greb' or sometimes merely with the letter B inside an urn shaped cartouche - this in an attempt to appear anonymous so as to avoid possible civil condemnation or penalties for lewdness or immorality. From the Jack Reingold Collection. In very good overall condition. Franz Bergman Foundry. Signed: "Nam Greb". Bronze. Viennese. Art Deco, 1920s-1930s. 13" H x 5" W x 4" D. CODE-BRO
