Description
This 2 gallon stoneware crock is stamped "N. Eberhardt / Toronto Ont" and is followed by a stylized "2". The Don Bridge Pottery, established in 1852, was located on the east side of present day Broadview Ave., between Queen St. and Eastern Ave., in Toronto. Eberhardt, who owned and operated the pottery from 1863 to 1879, was the second in a succession of potters to run the business during the pottery's 35 years of operation. From the Alan Emerson Collection. Traces of a yellow overpaint are noticeable primarily in the area of the decoration and potter's name. A small chip is present in the left handle while a larger one exists beneath it at the base. A fine vertical hairline crack can be seen extending from beneath the left handle towards the base. Nicholas Eberhardt. Salt-glazed stoneware. Canadian. c1870. 9" H x 10.25" Diameter. CODE-POT
