This coin-slot graphophone is an early example of the phonograph being recognised as an entertainment device. It would be fixed to a countertop in a restaurant, waiting room or arcade so that patrons could put a dime in the slot and hear the record. This is a well-presented example complete with horn and all keys. SN 501611. From the John Peel Collection. Oak. Complete and working, but may need adjustment for crank to lock before coin insertion. Sign board is a reproduction. American. c1898. 17" H x 15" W x 9" D. CODE-GRAM
