Description
American. All matching grips .45 Colt calibre nickel plated. Double and single action. Grips 2 piece hard rubber. 1001 of theses were purchased by the Canadian Government for the Militia during the 1885 Riel Rebellion in Western Canada. See the article by John Fera that accompanies this lot. After the Riel Rebellion, they were reissued to Canadian Officers serving in South Africa during the Boer War of 1899-1902. Most were marked at that time with an issue number followed by M-D (for Militia and Defence). This example being marked, "45 MD". Serial #14559, all matching including the grips. 7 1/2” barrel. Very good condition with approximately 80% original nickel plating. Don and Joyce Blyth collection. Note: This is a restricted firearm.
