Description
Canadian. Important early Snow Goose is in old paint. Light to moderate gunning wear. The decoy is hollow with tack eyes and still has its rigging intact. A very rare West Coast Canadian decoy by a pioneer maker. Gray, a market hunter who made Snow Geese as early as 1886 may have made this decoy in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. What may be a rigmate is pictured on page 169 of Patsy Flemings book “Traditions in Wood”. According to Fleming, Gray started the West Coast carving style and tradition. Signed T. Garvey. This Snow Goose is the actual bird photographed in Traditions in Wood (Fleming, p.168). 8 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 7 1/4". Marty Osler collection. CODE:DCOY
