Canadian. Circa 1857-1896. See "The Canadian Gunsmiths 1608-1900" by S. James Gooding, page 39. 2 examples known to Don. Engraved lock marked, "J. Tarratt & Sons". Barrel stamped, "W. Newby" and "1789". The purpose of the number is unknown. 30 1/4”, .45 calibre barrel. Barrel exhibits light wear with a few contact marks. Walnut stock shows a few light scratches and contact marks, cheek piece, with worn checkering and a flaw in front of the trigger guard. End piece missing from ramrod thimble at the stock.
