Description
Canadian. Only example known to Don. Not listed in Gooding's book. Marked, "Sarnia" under barrel. Thought to be Mohawk, but listed as a farmer on the 4th Concession 1864. Ex-Gilbert collection. Barrel marked, "J. BIRD". 29”, .48 calibre barrel. Heavy barrel shows heavy wear, pitting and contact marks at the nipple end. Walnut stock with worn checkering shows scratches and contact marks. An old repair shows a large piece neatly replaced from the lock escutcheon to the nose cap. The lock shows pitting, and will stop at half-cock but not full-cock. Voided area around the nipple holder.
