Description
C. 1950. Eaton’s of Toronto, Canada commissioned MerryThought of London, England to manufacture Eatons’ Christmas mascot ‘Punkinhead’. As the story goes, Punkinhead ‘saved Christmas’ by sacrificing his ‘top knot’ (hair) for Santa’s doll hair. Accordingly, many children lopped this mascot’s hair, so few survived unscathed. Retains maker’s label on right foot, “Merrythought Hygienic Toys of England”. Sold with Eaton’s brochure. Exhibits older stitch repairs at the toes and along the right side of the right foot. Exhibits scattered minor holes through then upper right foot, underside of snout and rear shorts. Shorts exhibit minor fade to the front. Scattered minor mohair losses. Tagged, "Merrythought Hygienic Toys / Made in England" lower right foot. Offered by the original owner. 13 x 7 x 4 1/2".
