Description
Canadian. 1880s. Carved wood with forged iron hardware. Originally from Gurd's Sporting Emporium, located at 185 Dundas Street Operated by J. Gurd & Son in London, Ontario beginning in the 1870s. The rifle was reportedly removed from the building around 1940. Includes an original 1881 postal cover featuring an engraved image of the storefront showing the sign in its original context. In early crazed overpaint with older surface visible beneath. 14 x 143 x 6". Originally fitted with cast iron hammers. CODE:SIG
