Description
Debossed, "J. E. McElderry, Guelph". 8.5 x 4.5" (diam). The handle has been professionally replaced and beautifully coloured to match. A very fine stable hairline (approx. 1" in length) just left of center beneath the mouth and above the merchant's name. A small chip exists at the base (front of jug) and a second chip (1/2" x 1/4") is present on the right side about 2" up from the base. A couple of small hairlines are present near the base on the left side towards the back. Other lines evident on the jug appear to have occurred during the firing as there aren't any glaze separations. A decorated jug from this merchant is pictured on page 55 of "Jugs & Crocks of the Guelph Merchants" by Joyce Blyth. CODE:POT
