Description
Debossed, "Made Expressly for G.Williams Grocer Guelph". 7.5 x 11" (diam). George Williams, a very prolific businessman, was not only a grocer but also a confectioner and baker. He had a fleet of horse drawn wagons for delivering his goods and also maintained a banquet hall on the third floor of his building. Four small hairline cracks (three in the body and one in the rim) are evident on the back of this crock. There's one chip (3/4") on the top of the lip and two other smaller chips on the outer rim at the top as well. A third chip (3/8") is evident just beneath the word "Guelph". Just above and to the left of the word "Made" are two very fine barely noticeable crescent shaped hairlines. Four chips and some general wear exist on the underside. This crock is pictured on page 75 of "Jugs & Crocks of the Guelph Merchants" by Joyce Blyth.
