An early chip carved crooked knife with heart, star and geometric motifs with the handle terminating in a well developed volute curl with protruding sides. Very fine chip carving, initialed SS and dated 1879 on a carved banner on the back of the handle with traces of original blue paint remaining. Wrapped copper wire retains the blade.
