A decorated Northwest Coast souvenir/dance paddle marked P.S. and signed Frederick Alexcee (1853-1940s). Overall very good untouched condition with a rolled handgrip and the blade painted with traditional motifs in green, red and black on one side with the signature and minimal decoration on the other. Alexcee was a carver and painter who was born at Fort Simpson (now known as Lax Kw'alaams) of mixed Iroquois/ Tsimshian background and was trained as a carver in the Tsimshian tradition creating objects for traditional tribal rituals as well as curios for the tourist trade at the end of the 19th century.
