A finely executed oil on canvas painting of the sailing ship Annie Burrill with the Red Ensign flying at the stern. The perspective provides a nice view of the deck with seven sailors on board and a painted figurehead adorning the prow. On the original stretcher in un-restored, very good condition, signed H. Petersen & P.C. Holm, 1874. Heinrich Petersen (German, 1834-1916) and Peter Christian Holm (Danish/German, 1823-1888) were considered leading ship portrait artists of their time. Paintings of other Canadian vessels by Petersen and Holm reside in the art collection of Nova Scotia Archives. Signed and dated. Sight: H: 17.5", W: 24.5". CODE:PFA
