Description
A souvenir paddle marked "Calumet Island, 1000 Islands", with painted scene of a mansion and tower and a rower in the foreground. The actual mansion on Calumet Island was built by New York tobacco magnate Charles Emery in the late 1800s and preceded the still-standing Boldt Castle. The main house remained until 1956 when it was destroyed by fire but the water tower is still standing. The paddle is in very good condition, painted by Alpheus Keech (1854-1926), Clayton New York. Early 20th century. L: 22", W: 2.5". CODE:CAN
