Description
Canadian. Circa 1910. 59.25" x 31.25" x 1.75". Painted tin. Marked, "Macey Sign Co" lower edge. Marks, Clavet & Dobie - Western Ontario merchant. Extremely rare. With the decline in bicycle demand at the turn of the century, Tommy Russell, the newly appointed president of Canada Cycle and Motor Co (CCM) diversified in to the automobile business launching the Russell Motor Car Co. In the winter (when bicycle sales were slow) they used scrap steel from automobile production to make skate blades, aptly called, "Automobile Skates". Sign is retained in its original wooden frame. Made for CCM Dealer "Marks, Clavet & Dobie", Port Arthur, Ontario". Severe and active flaking and peeling to painted surface. A worthy recipient of master restoration.. CODE-SPO. CODE-SIG
