Canadian. Oxford County. JJ Kenyon (1862-1937). Kenyon was a photographer and painter. He attended fairs to capture images of prize-winning animals, which he later painted. He also painted money portraits of the winning horses at race tracks in New York and Kentucky. Titled lower centre, 'Custodian at 4 Years. Imported by & the property of James Chandler, Ayr, Ontario'. Signed lower left corner, 'J.J. Kenyon'. Sight 23.5" x 17.5". Overall 29.75" x 23.75". Very good untouched condition. Needs cleaning which accounts for the spotting visible on the horse's body.
