American. 1866. 36� x 26� x 19� Manufactured in Bridgeport, Conn. by the Wheeler & Wilson Manufacturing Company, one of the most successful sewing machine companies of the 19th Century. The #5 is a lockstitch machine with a rotary hook, produced in the 1860�s-1870�s. This machine is an early version with silver plated parts. The serial number 229403 dates it to 1866. Information on the sewing plate states: WHEELER & WILSON M�F�G CO BRIDGEPORT, CONN. A.B. WILSON�S PATENTS NOV 12th 1850 AUG 12th 1851 JUNE 15th 1852 DEC 19th 1854 AND LICENSED UNDER E.
