Description
Canadian. 1880s. Exceptional, rare and early mahogany 3-box magneto wall set containing the early "Blake Transmitter" invented in 1878 by Francis Blake. The double band on the gutta percha receiver indicates that instrument was licensed for use in Canada. Built for the Bell System by Western Electric. Crank box is stamped, "Property of the Bell Telephone Company of Canada - Patented 1883 - Other Patents App'd For" - left side "27046" face. Transmitter stamped "Property of Bell Telephone Company of Canada - Use Not Licensed Under Any U.S Patents" face - "32141" right side. Hand receiver marked "The Bell Telephone Company of Canada, Montreal" "3167" on butt end. Complete, original condition. The gutta percha 2-band hand set remains perfectly intact. Wood retains its original finish and ebonized trim. Retains original battery. Battery box has two small surface chips: one at the outer edge of the writing platform and one to the lower right rear edge. A superb example of an historically significant Canadian telephone. 31.5" x 8" x 7". CODE:TEL
