Canadian. 1867. Oil on canvas. Delos Cline Bell was a Canadian portrait painter who exhibited in Hamilton (1867-8) and Ottawa (1874-6). This oil on canvas features Bell's self portrait with Canadian industrialist William Lucas. Bell is best known for his 1873 portrait of Sir John A. MacDonald which resides in the Royal Ontario Museum. Marked in pencil script, "William Lucas 1829-" and "D.C Bell" verso. 27 x 44". Exhibits very minor surface nicks and light surface soil, mostly to right half. CODE:PFA
