Day One - September 7 - boasts an important line-up of automotive and petroliana advertising, featuring the Ken and Sylvia McGee Collection of Goderich, Ontario. When Ken was 17 his father fired the drunken Parts Manager at his Dodge-Desoto Dealership leaving Ken to take the reins. Ken's 55-year career at the car dealership blossomed into an equally impressive collecting career that spans to present day. His highlights include rare porcelain signs, including a rare Dodge-Desoto dealer sign, an Oldsmobile Dealer neon, and many others. It also includes his 'babies': a 1948 Chrysler Town and Country ‘Woodie’ convertible, and his 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible (the iconic car featured in Dustin Hoffman’s Oscar-winning movie ‘Rainman’). This sale includes a stunning backdrop of finely restored gas pumps, pump signs, and related ephemera. Other rarities include companion Mobiloil Pegasus dealer signs, and a seldom seen 24" White Rose Dealer DSP sign, hanging from its original scroll bracket. Day two - September 8 - is packed with premier advertising related to soda, general store, and agriculture. It features part two of the Al Bensmiller Collection. For decades Al Bensmiller has been a highly regarded dealer of country store advertising, and the items featured are from his personal collection. Highlights in his sale are eclectic, ranging from a superb Salada Tea curb sign to a Campbell's Soup porcelain corner sign (the kind that inspired Andy Warhol), to an impressive 1941 Wurlitzer Model 750 juke box with original plastics. It also features a rare, and possibly unique ’Standing Beaver’ midget pint fruit jar. Other advertising includes an intact collection of Five Roses Flour signs and ephemera, crowned by the iconic ‘Native' Flour Bag sign. Also noteworthy is the full run of Coca Cola pilaster signs, all in high-grade condition, from a single source. These two important days are not to be missed! Scheduling a Pick-up
All purchases are eligible for free delivery to the AACA Hershey Auto Show in Hershey, Pennsylvania on October 9-10. Scheduled pickups at our New Hamburg gallery are available by request. Our full-service shipping department will operate as usual. Shipping to the USA is available via USPS, FedEx or UPS.
